The vintage in Italy.
Italy in this cellar means two places above all: the Langhe, where Nebbiolo ripens late on marl hills and a Riserva can spend seven years in cask before release, and Bolgheri, where Cabernet sits close enough to the Tyrrhenian for the sea to moderate the summer.
Seven hectares of blue clay on a hill above Ornellaia, planted to Merlot in 1984 almost by accident. It became Italy’s answer to Pétrus, and the only Italian wine traded like a first growth.
