What we hold of the 1954
  • 1 bottle · very top-shoulder fill

Bordeaux in 1954.

Cold and wet from flowering to harvest, and one of the weakest post-war years on the left bank. Almost nothing was bottled for keeping, which is exactly why the few surviving bottles are so seldom seen.

Eleven hectares of blue clay on the Pomerol plateau, farmed by the Moueix family and made almost entirely from Merlot. Pétrus never had a château to speak of; it had the soil, and the soil made it the most sought-after wine in Bordeaux.

Condition is described before anything travels: fill level, label, capsule and original case, bottle by bottle. If you have not bought an older bottle before, our note on fill levels explains what those words mean and what they are worth. The 1954 leaves storage once, insured and temperature-controlled, for your home, your cellar or your account at a bonded warehouse in Switzerland.
