Eleven hectares of blue clay on the Pomerol plateau, farmed by the Moueix family and made almost entirely from Merlot. Pétrus never had a château to speak of; it had the soil, and the soil made it the most sought-after wine in Bordeaux.

In the cellar: 1946 and 1954 (very top-shoulder fills, one bottle each), 1969, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1982 (two bottles, superb levels), 1985 magnum, 1986, 1995, 2003, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2020, and a 2024 en primeur.
