Bordeaux in 2013.
Poor flowering, a cold summer and botrytis at harvest gave the weakest modern vintage for red Bordeaux. In Sauternes, the same botrytis was a gift.
Eleven hectares of blue clay on the Pomerol plateau, farmed by the Moueix family and made almost entirely from Merlot. Pétrus never had a château to speak of; it had the soil, and the soil made it the most sought-after wine in Bordeaux.
