Bordeaux in 2003.
The August heatwave. Vines shut down, skins thickened, acidity fell away, and the wines came out unlike anything else in the cellar: low-acid, dense and atypical. They have aged on their own schedule.
Eleven hectares of blue clay on the Pomerol plateau, farmed by the Moueix family and made almost entirely from Merlot. Pétrus never had a château to speak of; it had the soil, and the soil made it the most sought-after wine in Bordeaux.
Condition is described before anything travels: fill level, label, capsule and original case, bottle by bottle. If you have not bought an older bottle before, our note on fill levels explains what those words mean and what they are worth. The 2003 leaves storage once, insured and temperature-controlled, for your home, your cellar or your account at a bonded warehouse in Switzerland.
